When I make the world just a little bit easier for people through a positive online experience, I call it a good day. I share my knowledge and experience. I inspire my teams. I take on impactful projects. I use my skills to make the world a better place.

I do this because I love to help people be better at what they do. I\’m a natural leader, but I also love to learn new things. That\’s why I went back to school and earned my Master’s degree in digital communications from the University of Washington—I wanted my skills to improve so I could share them with you.

That means I understand how to tell a story—and make it work.

What’s content strategy again?

Content strategy looks at the content you have and figures out what works, what doesn’t, and what’s missing. Over and over again. Content strategy is about finding the right tools for the job. It’s about measuring outcomes. And most important, it’s about making sure it works for your audience.

Product Design and User Experience

I’m a digital product designer and UX architect/researcher. When designing a digital product like a mobile app or website, I make sure that I use collected data and interviews with future users to make all of the buttons and interactions feel \”like they\’re supposed to.\”

What’s user experience again?

You know how when you’re navigating through a site all of the pictures and buttons feel like they’re part of a natural flow, and everything feels like it’s in its place? That’s good user experience. And if it’s not? That’s where I can help.

Mentoring and Teaching

When I learn stuff, I love to share what I know. That’s why I offer advice, mentorship, and my accumulated knowledge. Pretty much anything but teaching a man to fish. Because I don’t fish. But what have I done?

  • I\’m a professor. I teach Survey of Digital Communications at Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, Washington. It\’s entirely online, and includes recorded lectures, interviews with subject-matter experts, and group communications projects.
  • I spent years mentoring interns at my own publication, helping to launch more than a few journalism careers.
  • I’ve helped startups put together their pitches to obtain funding.
  • I offer courses such as Stop Writing Crap, which helps people take better control of how they communicate, an Intro to WordPress course, and an Intro to Adobe InDesign, which allows anyone the opportunity to become an expert in laying out their own design collateral.
